The South

The southern climate is cool and humid in the Lake District, colder and windier in Patagonia.

Lake Llanquihué near Puerto Varas and El Salto de Petrohué are specifically located in the Los Lagos Region.

Araucania is the land of the «Mapuches», the largest ethnic minority in the country.

Further south is the large island of Chiloé, land of tales and legends.

The main cities in the south are: Temuco, Valdivia, Concepción and Puerto Montt.

Forests of thousand-year-old native trees, white water sports, hiking and trekking for the woods of Chiloé, local gastronomy, national parks, nature lovers, heritage churches (Vicente Perez Rosales, Torres del Paine…), settlements of Magellanic penguins, glaciers, waterfalls, fauna and flora in abundance…
